Student Admission

Closing date for applications:

Please note that the closing date for admissions is 31 st October each year, with an application fee payable.

Any application received after that date will be treated as a late application and will be subject to a late application fee.

General Admission Information

With reference to the Admission Policy of the University Council and all existing student rules, a synopsis of certain important administrative procedures are brought to your notice.

Admission requirements

A student must comply with the minimum admission requirements as set in the Calendar of the CUT for each programme of instruction at the CUT.

Letter of acceptance of provisional selection

The Student Admission Office of the CUT will confirm to the candidate in writing that he/she has been admitted provisionally. No student may be enrolled without first having been selected.

Testing of potential

The provisionally selected candidate will be notified that the application is subject to testing of potential. In such cases students will be notified of the date, time and place of testing.

Acceptance of admission and enrolment

After receipt of an official letter from the Student Admissions Office of the CUT to the effect that the candidate is offered admission to the CUT, the candidate must accept the admission in writing on or before the due date indicated in the letter, and then enrol on the date as determined.

Addresses

During enrolment students must furnish four addresses, namely the postal address, the address to which the account must be sent, the study (examination) address and the address of his/her next of kin. The Registrar must be notified in writing of all of the aforesaid addresses.

Official dates

Registration and enrolment dates will be the dates determined in the University’s Academic Calendar as published in the Calendar of the CUT.

Student induction programmes

Student induction programmes will be held as published in the students’ diary.

Exclusion of students

Students may be excluded for reasons proclaimed in the Policy and Procedures Manual for evaluation and/or for financial reasons. If there are outstanding fees for the previous study year/semester and/or if you have failed two or more subjects in succession during the preceding examinations, you are advised to consult these exclusion rules before you enrol.

Changing of subject/instructional programme or termination of studies

A change of subject/instructional programme is only accepted until the official closing date published in the Academic Calendar of the CUT. Any change of subject and/or instructional programme must be reported in writing on the prescribed form according to official procedure, as proclaimed in the Calendar of the CUT.

Minimum fees payable

All students must deposit their minimum fees payable into the banking account of the CUT and submit their application and/or enrolment form, together with the bank deposit slip, to the CUT before they can be enrolled.

Certificate of conduct

A student who has been or is registered at another higher education institution, when applying for admission to the CUT, must submit a certificate regarding his/her conduct at the former institution, which must be acceptable to the Senate of the CUT.

Placement in a residence

Any registered, academically selected, full-time student may apply for accommodation in a residence. A student in a residence must register as full-time student, he/she must pay, on enrolment, all boarding and other fees due arising from accommodation that may be levied by the CUT, and he/she must sign the Code of Conduct for students. When a place in a residence has been allocated to the student and the student has occupied a room, it will be regarded as subject to and acknowledgement of the institutional and residence rules by the student concerned.

Residence fees

Only enrolled students who have paid the residence and other fees due, as instructed by the CUT, are allowed to occupy a room.

Termination of accommodation in a residence

The termination of a student's accommodation in a residence must be reported in writing on the prescribed form in accordance with official procedure proclaimed in the Calendar of the CUT.
