Journal for New Generation Sciences

Journal for New Generation Sciences

Publication Policy

1. The Journal for New Generation Sciences (JNGS) is publishing biannually (July and December) papers in the technological sciences. Technological science has to do with the development of knowledge through application and goes beyond disciplinary borders and subject specific issues.

2. Research should be executed in the context of Gibbon’s Mode 2 Knowledge. This mode of knowledge production implies that knowledge production is produced in the context of application, it is transdisciplinary in nature and is responsive to societal needs. The JNGS focuses on papers which reflect the scientific results of:

·         SET and the management of SET research

·         Applied research informed by industry/business problems

·         Partnerships with industry/business/government (“triple helix”)

·         Knowledge production in the context of Mode 2 Knowledge Generation

·         Scholarship in teaching and research

·         Research projects leading to SET qualifications

·         Income generation through research

·         Entrepreneurship through innovation

3. Research outputs are defined as critical analysis and reflection to solve university/industry/business-related problems. This approach embodies the search for and the generation of new knowledge through scholarly work supported by partnerships with business/industry and government. Although the research focus is on applied research, no applied research can be undertaken without an understanding of basic research. The JNGS is following the Frascati research classification of basic and applied research. The following terminology is applied to these definitions.

·         Basic research: original investigation with the primary aim of developing more complete knowledge or understanding of the subject under study.

·         Applied research: original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge and directed primarily towards specific practical aims or objectives.

4. All papers are peer-reviewed by two experts. An editorial review also secures the quality of the paper.

5. On a national policy level, the JNGS supports the National Plan on Higher Education (NPHE, 2001) Outcome 13: Research concentration and funding linked to research outputs.

6. The JNGS supports the both high quality scholarly work of established researchers and capacity building amongst new researchers.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PUBLICATION OF PAPERS

2.

All papers should have three to five key words. This should be part of the abstract of the paper.

3.

Papers should be properly edited, stylistically polished and carefully proofread.

5.

Copyright is transferred to the Central University of Technology, Free State on acceptance for publication.
