GUIDELINES FOR THE PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES

INTERIM

Background

The INTERIM (ISSN 1648-498X) is an in-house publication published twice a year. The goal of the journal is to give novice researchers the opportunity to publish their research and established researchers to publish work in progress. These articles are all peer-reviewed to expose researchers to this process of review. An in-house peer review approach is followed with the main emphasis on improvement of the quality of the article, the building of self-confidence in the art of publication writing and the mastering of skills and techniques associated with publication writing.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES

1.

Articles are published in Afrikaans and English. The preferred length is between 3500 - 5000 words. All articles should be accompanied by a 100 word abstract in English.

2.

All articles should have three to five key words. This should be part of the abstract of the article.

3.

Articles should be properly edited, stylistically polished and carefully proofread.

4.

The Editor reserves the right to make such alterations as he/she sees fit to accommodate the style and presentation of articles to the house style. Where major changes are necessary the text may be returned to the author for correction or approval.

5.

Copyright is transferred to the Central University of Technology, Free State on acceptance for publication.

6.

Titles should be short and concise. Suitable headings and subheadings should be provided. No more than 2 levels of sub headings are desired (example 1.1, 1.1.1).

7.

Source references in the text should be in the Harvard style, using the author’s surname only.

8.

All footnotes should be regarded as end-notes.

9.

Abbreviations and acronyms should be written out the first time that they are used.

10.

Italics should not be over-used for emphasis. Latin phrases such as per se must be italicized. Words in languages other than that of the manuscript should be given in quotation marks.

11.

Refereeing is always anonymous. All articles will be peer reviewed by two referees.

12.

The author of a published article will receive one copy of the relevant issue of the journal. No honorarium will be paid.

13.

Address for submissions: A hard copy and an MS Word disc or a MS Word Rtf file on e-mail to Prof LOK Lategan, Dean: Research and Development, Central University of Technology, Free State, Private Bag X20539, Bloemfontein. 9300. Tel 051-5073279. Fax 051-5073275. (E-mail: Llategan@cut.ac.za).
